Often substitute transistors are required because of the limit of supply.

Making a Reverse Log Pot from a Linear Pot
I need a 10k reverse log pot for the Drive Pot of the Roger Mayer Octavia. I decided to make one out of at linear pot and bridging lug 1&2 to lug 3 with a resistor. I made the calculation as below using http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-paralresist.htm
Rtotal = R1×R2/(R1+R2)
The curve is for using a 50K linear pot with a 12k resistor.
Below is my build. the 10k resistor is connected to pot 3=>pot1&2.
pot 3 will be ground.

Roger Mayer Octavia
Want to get a knarly fuzz going with the extra feature of a switchable octave for variety
Here is how to modthe input pregain.
to add the pre-gain control from the ggg octavia you just need to put a 50k linear pot between the input and the 100n input cap. On the pot - 2 goes to the input on the board, 3 goes to input on the bypass switch and 1 goes to ground

Xotic EP Booster (Clone)
I built 2 EP Booster pedals, one white one and one raw. As you can see the dips are external switches.
Here is the white one
And the raw one.
Thinking of making a few more becuz i sold both of the above. I found that the pedal added to much bass, thinking of making the mod like below.
just built this one and it sounds great. the only thing is that the bass boost switch didn't really do anything at all. I tried replacing the 100u cap with a 220u, still no difference. then I replaced the 10u on Q1's source with a 1u and put the 100u back in. it works pretty good now, but since this preamp adds low end even with just the 1u cap, i'm thinking about replacing the 1u with a 470n so it'll be more of a flat boost when the fat switch isn't clicked in.
