guitars

This is my current collection of guitars. I mostly use the Strats for practice and gigging, but use the Ibanez for recording occasionally. The bass is used in a band I fill in for because they could not find a bass player.

Fender American Standard Telecaster, 2112 (2018.01.26)
Picked this one up on Reverb.com for $800+$60 shipping - 1% discount, total about $850. I was hoping to get a slab body without the belly cut, but went ahead and took the plunge with this one. Maybe if one comes up on craigslist I will check it out. This should wrap up my collection and I hope this will be my last purchase for a while.

I have a little side gig doing custom refinishes, and I acquired this American Standard Tele for a project. I just didn't have the heart to cover up the exceptional ash wood grain on this one. Very nice figuring, and it's a perfectly matched two-piece body. (Most Fenders I come across these days are three piece.)

Guitar is in beautiful condition with minor signs of use (two very small dings are documented in my last couple of pictures). Zero buckle rash and no scratches anywhere. Recent setup with nice, comfortably low action. Includes a spotless Fender case, along with all the extras—wrenches, strap, cord, manual and other paperwork.

As with all of my listings I price realistically using Reverb's selling history tool.

Happy to answer questions or provide additional photos on request.

Fender American Standard Jazz Bass (2018.01.11)
Craigslist hit for $600. We met up at Del Mar Denny's during lunch making an easy buy time wise. My ideas of guitar arbitrage is selling this one on reverb for $700 with hopes to get $100 and the cable/strap for free.

Fender American Standard Stratocaster with Extras - $700(UTC/La Jolla)

Fender American Standard Stratocaster. Excellent condition with Fender hard case, manual, shoulder strap, cord and set of strings. I hardly ever played it and don't have an amp anymore. If you want to plug it in to try it, please bring an amp and be able to tune it.

Shipping was $30 ($23+ $7.25 insurance), Reverb.com commission was $46, totaling about $75. Net profit turns out to be about $100 plus a rather nice Fender logo OHSC and assorted accessories.

Fender American Standard Jazz Bass (2018.01.07)
Craigslist hit for $700. I am thinking or reinstalling the original pickup and sell the Seymour Duncan for $50. Also hope to sell the MIM Jazz Bass after picking up this one.

original cl ad:
Tobacco Sunburst in color. Hardly ever been played and never gigged before. No dings or scratches. Has Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder pickup installed in the bridge, but I also have the original pickup. Original hard case included. Moving, must sell! 800 obo

Fender Stratocaster MIM (2017.12.25)
Craigslist hit for $160. Originally advertised for $180, but I bargained for $20 off. The seller drove to Del Mar to deliver it on Xmas day at 9am so worked out well. The only issue is that the backside of the headstock has peeling laminate that was not noticeable in the ad photos, so a little disappointed. However for $160, it was a nice score. I compared it with my American Standard and actually sounds better. But I think it might be because of the strings. Also it was at low volume, so perhaps not an accurate test. I might hold on to it for a while, but originally plan to try to turn a profit. It included a nice and clean "Silverstone"gig bag and some wrenches which already came in handy.

original cl ad:
I am selling the Stratocaster I assembled years ago. Parts sourced from EBAY seller "Stratosphere". Absolutely no issues with it. Olympic white body. 1970's 3-bolt neck. Large CBS headstock. Vintage CBS tuners.

I would like to keep it, But, I am just not playing it anymore. I'm asking just $180 for it. Take a look at the pictures. If you're interested, contact me.

2018.03.09. SOLD
Got $450 on Reverb.com. Sale included a tweed hardcase bought in the Strat/Blues Jr deal, so overall about $400 just for the guitar. Thanks sums to $240 net.

Ibanez Art300 Caiman (2017.12.23)
Traded for Line 6 HD150 and 4x12 cabbecause it was difficult finding a buyer and could not unload the amp.  This trade included the guitar, hard case and $65 and some picks tucked away in the case pocket. Some of the picks were carved out of old credit cards. After using some of the cc-picks, they are actually not bad and a good use of expired credit cards. I drove 70 miles round trip to deliver it in El Cajon. I have listed in on Reverb.com to try and recover the cost of the Line 6 amp and cabinet.

Epiphone ES-339 Dot (2017.12.22)
After lurking on Reverb.com, I finally landed a cherry with hard case for $330 plus $45 shipping, totalling $375. The guitar arrived in excellent condition, new strings and a prestine hard case. The pickguard was included uninstalled, however the body side mounting screw was missing.

Fender American Standard Stratocaster, 2010 (2017.12.06)
$750 for the guitar, hard case and Boss GT-8 unit. I sold the BOSS Unit for $123 minus about $13 for Reverb.com commission and shipping error totalling $110. This makes if $640 for the Strat w/Hard Case.

Fender American Standard Telecaster, 1992 (2017.10.23 - SOLD Dec.2017)
On a guitar buying rampage. I picked up this guitar from craigslist for $600. Somehow I have justified building my collection back up since my move to SD from Tokyo. Also I got a moving violation buy a friggin camera cop for $500!!! So I am taking revenge and buying a guitar. I know, stupid logic but what the heck! The seller included a Fender hard case and strap.

original cl ad:
This is a 1992 Fender American Standard Telecaster in excellent condition. It has a 2 piece body that is book-matched. Plays and sounds great. Comes with its original case. No trades. If the ad is up it is still available.

The neck lacquer was starting to crack all along the back of the neck, giving it an unpleasant feel. Either sand it down, or get rid of it. Sold on Reverb.com for $750 - $50 commision, totalling $700 in pocket. Since I bought it for $600 I ending up making $100 plus the Fender logo leather strap.

Fender Jazz Bass MIM (2017.10.21 - SOLD 2018.01.08)
I picked up this guitar from craigslist for $310. It included a nice Levy's leather strap and mogami cable and flat wound strings. After wiping it down and cleaning up the fret board, it turned out quite nice. The action is quite high, so I plan to replace the bridge with a badass bridge knock off. Below is the original photo from the cl ad.

I ended up picking up a US made Jazz Bass, so sold this one for $500 on Reverb.com. I had earlier bought 2 SKB cases for $80 total, selling one with this guitar. Net is $500 - $310 - $40 = $150.

Epiphone ES-335 Dot (2017.08.05)
I picked up this guitar from craigslist for $200. It was a great deal because it included an Epiphone hard case, 2 extra custom pick guards, and a nice strap. Also the seller drove out to deliver it close by saving me a long drive.

Epiphone ES-339 (2017.04.10 - SOLD Nov.2017)
I picked up this guitar from craigslist for $250. It included at guitar stand, but no case or strap. I wanted a red or natural, but 339 are no so common on cl, so I went ahead and picked it up.

I sold the the guitar on cl for $300 because I originally wanted red color with a hard case. I ended up making $50 plus the guitar stand.

Fender Stratocaster - American Standard - Made in USA (SOLD end of 2016)
Bought this one used on Yahoo Auction for 70,000 jpy with a hard case and pickup assembly with Fender Custom Shop Pickups. I ended up selling the assembly for 20,000 jpy, the hard case for 9000 jpy and the guitar for 57,000 jpy. I picked up another used strat because I did not like the sound of this one. I will upload the photos of the other strat soon.

Fender Stratocaster - BlackTop HH -  Made in Mexico (SOLD end of 2016)
Bought this one on Yahoo Auction for 30,000 jpy. I replaced the mint green pickguard with this pearloid red one and tuning keys with Fender locking tuners. Since it is MIM, the tuners dropped in as-is making it a super easy upgrade. This is my main guitar I use when going to studio practice because I can beat it up and also get many different sounds with the dual hums wired for single coil in position 2 and 4.

Ibanez AS80 - Made in Japan (SOLD end of 2016)
I bought this one on Yahoo Auction for 80,000 jpy with the original hard case. I always liked the beauty of semi-acoustic guitars and dream of playing jazz like John Scofield. At least I can own a guitar that has the potential.

Fender American Standard Jazz Bass - Made in USA (SOLD end of 2016)
I bought this one used off craigslist. The guy was needed cash to make child care payments and had a stock of guitars he never touched. He mentioned he played a USA made telecaster he loved and just had this bass for kicks. It came with a tweed hard case for 40,000 jpy. I ended up selling the tweed case for 12,500 jpy making the price to be 27,500 jpy. Quite a steal for such a nice bass. I use it with the band fill in bass for because they could not find a bass player at the time. Now I am stuck in that role, however get to use this bass quite a lot. The frets are getting a little worn on this one.

Fender Telecaster - '72 Deluxe Reissue -  Made in Mexico (SOLD end of 2016)
Just picked up this guitar off Yahoo Auction for 45,000 jpy. I got infatuated with this guitar after seeing on the Lenny Kravits video "Are You Gonna Go My Way". This one seems to have a problem with grounding or noise, so I might have to rip it open and remedy the noise issue. At the moment a pending project.
