Pedalboard Update - Ambient style

This is my large pedalboard case setup for Ambient with a volume pedal and many delays. The photo has a Boss Chorus before the DD-7 pedals, but I am lurking for a Reverb to follow the Delays. Also I have few more Chinese clones on order so the bottom row will change up soon. One of the pedals in the order is another Blue Delay, so those will shift to the upper row after the volume pedal. The general order of the the chain is dirt into volume into modulation/delay. I had the vol/modulation in the effects loop previousely, but another future change will be outputting stereo to the front end of 2 amps. So the entire chain does not include the effects loop.

Effects Loop Volume Box (Line Attenuator)

I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with the "loud at 1" issue since I live in an apartment with shared walls. I thought about changing the volume pots in the amp itself, but weary of moding it just for this usage. So the quick and dirty (and cheap) solution is adding a pot in the effects loop. Here is a nice link that explains what this task entails.

Here is the easily understood construction drawing.

Update 2018.01.13
I have accumulated parts and threw it together, now on my way to use my amp in closet musicians terms.Built the unit with a plastic box bought at Daiso and part from Tayda. I plugged it into the effects loop of my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and can now play in my apartment with manageable volumes. Now I need to acquire a knob to finish it off (and perhaps line the inside with aluminum for noise insulation).

BOSS FS-6 Dual Footswitch Project

More DIY ideas. I use a BOSS RC-2 and want to try and build an FS-6 pedal minus the LEDS.

Our fellow DIYers have already to this, so makes planning easy. Note that the switch must be normally CLOSED and the jack is stereo, thus the cable must be stereo also.

PreSonus Firebox Audio Capture

Before my move to SD, I sold my Edirol UA-25. I used a Zoom R8 that has an audio capture feature that I thought would replace it. However my craigslist browsing did me in and found this unit for $30.

Had this firebox for several years. Probably used it twice. Been in the box ever since. It has everything and is like new.

Hi,

Yes it’s available. I can flex a bit on price. I’m in La Jolla during work hours. Would a time around lunch work for you? Thanks!

Pedalboard Inputs and Outputs

Image result for Dr J Pedals Armor Buffer

I am trying to compile ideas for input and output buffers for my "Deluxe" pedalboard. This has been capture by the Dr J Armor Booster/Buffer pedal above. Below are some candidates for buffers
  • Emerson EM-Drive
  • MXR MC-401 CAE Booster/Line Driver
  • MXR Micro Amp
  • Xotic RC Booster
  • Xotic EP Booster
  • Klon Buffer
  • Cornish Buffer
  • AMZ Jack Orman Buffer
  • ZVEX Super Hard On with Volume Control
Another consideration is the effects loop. One of my requirements is to have a volume control to limit db's in my apartment lifestyle. For this I am considering the below.
  • EWS subtle volume control
  • Emerson EM-Drive
  • Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay with Volume Control Mod

3in1 DIY Dirt

Image result for 3in1 guitar pedal

Brewing up ideas of two 3in1 effect pedal boxes. I made a prototype version, but the enclosure is limited and shorts from time to time. I bought some proper enclosures for better execution. The idea is that every board has a 2-3 stage dirt, yet there are some many variations. The 3in1 will be wired to easily interchange and switch out the pcb's and down the line can be mixed and matched at one's hearts desire. The first stage is an always on low gain, and when stomped it will go to a tuner.

Reading Music

After some googling, I will try to get a hold of a few books for reading music.

  1. Howard Roberts Sight Reading Manual For Guitar, which was the text at MI for many years.
  2. Sight To Sound by Leon White.
  3. M.I.'s Music Reading for the Guitar
  4. William Leavitt Modern Method for guitar Vol I, II, III and  Melodic Rhythms
  5. Real Book

Snippet from Harmony Central.

http://www.harmonycentral.com/forum/forum/guitar/acapella-40/1882126-

In my opinion it takes a good book, and some other things to supplement it.

Unfortunately the most effective book I've ever known is now orphaned, and out of print. That would be Howard Roberts Sight Reading Manual For Guitar, which was the text at MI for many years.

Now I would suggest Sight To Sound by Leon White. Couple this with Leavitt's Melodic Rhythms, and you'll have most of what you need.

Next get a spiral bound notebook of staff paper. Every time you encounter a difficult rhythm, write it down. And write down what ever applicable subdivisions
apply. Meaning that a 1/4 note rhythm should be written as 1/2 notes as well (if possible) and 8th and 16ths as well. Practice these rhythms each night slowly with a metronome BEFORE working through the books. After going through the books, be sure to read through the Real Book or some other music. Also, you should read unfamiliar music everyday.
